The Resilience Model

What is Resilience?

Everyone’s life has circumstances that cause them to be ‘up’ or ‘down’. Having a degree of resilience that we can call upon to see us through the peaks and troughs will enable us to sustain work performance and enhance our overall well-being. The 7 skill sets of Resilience are interrelated so that strengths in each skill set can enhance the performance in others. Therefore building higher levels of resilience can be achieved by concentrating on a few core skills that require development. The focus on resilience also provides tools and techniques to counter stress and fatigue often experienced in times of change. While work oriented, the learning is also be helpful in life outside work.

The Resilience Profile

The Resilience Profile is a self-assessment of 61 questions covering the 7 skill elements and a general view of resilience. The feedback is provided as an overall view, a definition of the element and then data within each skill set appearing as a graph that highlights strengths and potential for development. Each skill set has a narrative that indicates the individual’s resilience level and provides recommendations for developing abilities in that skill set. An action plan page concludes the profile. The profile can be part of a workshop or key feedback as a basis for coaching.

Workshops and/or Coaching

A one day Resilience Profile and Workshop (Overcoming Stress and Fatigue) provides an interactive and supportive environment where participants explore the 7 skill sets. In an interactive and supportive environment, participants explore the 7 skill sets. They experience tools and techniques that can assist them to build higher levels of resilience. For people who have attended an Emotional Capability workshop there is a special Resilient Emotional Capability workshop which focuses on the reciprocal relationship between the elements of Emotional Capability and the skill sets of Resilience. The two profiles provide a rich source of feedback and support for further development. All workshops have a comprehensive participant workbook that provide an ongoing resource. The workshops can be designed to integrate with an overall organisational development programme.
